TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - Several inches of snow have fallen across New Jersey as a winter storm continues to make its way up the coast.

The heaviest snows have been on the southern New Jersey coast, with nearly seven inches on the ground in parts of Atlantic and Cape May counties. Forecasters say up to a foot of snow is possible there before the snow ends Saturday night.

About 2 to 4 inches had fallen in central New Jersey, while northern areas had 1 to 2 inches. Another couple inches was expected in those regions.

Travel has become treacherous, with dozens of accidents and spinouts reported. Authorities were urging residents to avoid travel if possible so crews could plow roadways.

Speed limits were reduced on the Garden State Parkway and the New Jersey Turnpike.
