CORINTH, Miss. (AP) - The Alcorn County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the discovery of partial human remains at a residence near Kossuth.

The Daily Corinthian (https://bit.ly/2iRRsgl) reports that the sheriff’s department received a call Wednesday when a dog brought human remains into a yard.

Sheriff Ben Caldwell says additional searches, including one with cadaver dogs, found no other remains.

The remains were turned over to the coroner and are to be examined at the state crime lab. The sheriff says investigators hope the lab will be able to determine the identity and cause of death.

Caldwell says investigators are examining all possibilities, including missing person cases.

He says the dog may have found an old, forgotten gravesite.
