COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Michael Grabner scored on a breakaway with 17 seconds left, and the New York Rangers rallied for a dramatic 5-4 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday night.
The shot through Curtis McElhinney’s pads capped a furious comeback that included three goals in the third period by New York, which rallied from 4-1 in the second and handed the Blue Jackets their second straight loss after a captivating 16-game winning streak.
Grabner and Adam Clendening each had two goals and Oscar Lindberg also scored for the Rangers, who moved within a point of Columbus at the top of the Metropolitan Division.
Columbus got goals from Markus Nutivaara, Cam Atkinson, Scott Hartnell and Lukas Sedlak but was badly outplayed by New York in the frenetic third period.
KINGS 4, WILD 3, OT
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Tanner Pearson tipped home Alec Martinez’s pass for his 11th goal at 3:32 of overtime, sending Los Angeles past Minnesota.
Zach Parise scored the tying power-play goal with 42.1 seconds left in regulation for the Wild, but Pearson ended it with a slick deflection in front of Darcy Kuemper for his fourth goal in six games.
Jeff Carter had a goal and two assists in the 12th multipoint game of his monster season for the Kings. They improved to 8-1 in games decided in 3-on-3 overtime play.
Mikko Koivu and Charlie Coyle scored first-period goals and Kuemper stopped 32 shots for the Wild. They have lost two of three after their 12-game winning streak.
Jake Muzzin scored the tiebreaking power-play goal early in the third for the Kings, but Parise evened it with Kuemper pulled for 6-on-4 play in the final minute after Drew Doughty was sent off for tripping.
Marian Gaborik also scored and Peter Budaj made 21 saves for the Kings.
OILERS 2, DEVILS 1, OT
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Mark Letestu scored a power-play goal at 3:59 of overtime and Cam Talbot stopped 19 shots as Edmonton beat New Jersey.
Matthew Benning also scored his first NHL goal for the Oilers who improved to 6-1-2 in the last nine.
Cory Schneider made 41 saves and Miles Wood scored for the Devils.
The game featured the first meeting of the clubs since the summer trade that sent defenseman Adam Larsson to Edmonton for left wing Taylor Hall.
SABRES 4, JETS 3
BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Brian Gionta scored midway through the third period and Buffalo rallied to beat Winnipeg for its second victory in three games.
Ryan O’Reilly added a goal and an assist and has four points in two games since returning from an appendectomy. Marcus Foligno and Zemgus Girgensons had third-period goals and Robin Lehner made 32 saves.
Nikolaj Ehlers, Drew Stafford and Joel Armia scored for the Jets, and Connor Hellebuyck stopped 32 shots. Patrik Laine, the NHL’s rookie scoring leader, was escorted to the dressing room after taking an open-ice hit from Buffalo’s Jake McCabe 13 seconds after the Sabres tied it.
FLYERS 4, LIGHTNING 2
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Travis Konecny, Michael Raffl, Sean Couturier and Radko Gudas scored in the second period and Philadelphia beat Tampa Bay to end a five-game losing streak.
Michal Neuvirth made 24 saves in his first game since Nov. 12 after missing 24 because of a left knee injury. Philadelphia had lost seven of eight since the end of a 10-game winning streak on Dec. 17.
Alex Killorn and Nikita Kucherov scored for the Lightning. They have allowed 16 goals during a three-game slide.
CAPITALS 1, SENATORS 0
OTTAWA, Ontario (AP) - Braden Holtby made 30 saves for his second straight shutout and fifth of the season and Washington won its fifth straight.
T.J. Oshie scored 1:38 into the game to help the Capitals improve to 25-9-5.
Mike Condon made 19 saves for Ottawa. The Senators have lost four straight to drop to 20-14-4. They played for the first time falling 2-1 to the Capitals on Jan. 1.
COYOTES 2, ISLANDERS 1, SO
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Anthony Duclair and Radim Vrbata scored in the shootout to help Arizona snap a nine-game losing streak.
Louis Domingue stopped 27 shots after getting the start in the second game of a back-to-back set, and stopped Andrew Ladd’s attempt in the second round of the shootout to end the game.
Brandon Perlini scored in the third period to tie the score for the Coyotes, who were 0-8-1 in their previous nine and won for the first time since 3-2 shootout victory at Toronto on Dec. 15.
Alan Quine scored and Thomas Greiss stopped 24 shots for New York.
BLUES 4, STARS 3
ST. LOUIS (AP) - Paul Stastny scored twice, Patrick Berglund broke a third-period tie with his seventh of the season, and St. Louis beat Dallas.
Vladimir Tarasenko also scored for the Blues, who have points in 17 of their last 20 home games. Carter Hutton made 25 saves while filling in for Jake Allen.
Lauri Korpikoski, Patrick Eaves and John Klingberg scored for Dallas, which has dropped three in a row since a season-high, three-game win streak.
Berglund gave St. Louis a 4-3 lead when he deflected a shot from Kevin Shattenkirk into the net with 1:54 left in regulation. It was his sixth goal in his last 10 games.
CANADIENS 5, MAPLE LEAFS 3
TORONTO (AP) - Carey Price made 33 saves for his 20th victory of the season and the Montreal beat Toronto for the 13th straight time.
Max Pacioretty, Artturi Lekhonen, Alex Radulov, Nikita Scherbak and Michael McCarron scored for Montreal. The Canadiens finished 4-1-2 on their trip and gave coach Michel Therrien his 400th victory.
James van Riemsdyk, Nazem Kadri and Tyler Bozak scored for Toronto. The Maple Leafs last beat Montreal on Jan. 18, 2014, going 0-9-4 since.
Frederik Andersen gave up five goals on 31 shots for the Leafs. They had a seven-game points streak snapped.
BRUINS 4, PANTHERS 0
SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) - Brad Marchand scored two goals, Tuukka Rask had 25 saves and Boston beat Florida for the fourth time in four meetings this season.
Riley Nash and David Backes also scored, and Rask got his fifth shutout of the season.
Florida’s James Reimer made 33 saves in his fourth straight start. Roberto Luongo, who missed Friday’s 2-1 victory against Nashville with an upper-body injury, is day to day.
The Panthers have lost six of their last eight games.
SHARKS 6, RED WINGS 3
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Joe Pavelski had two goals, Mikkel Boedker scored for the first time in 30 games and San Jose ended a three-game slide.
Patrick Marleau, Mirco Mueller and Joonas Donskoi also scored for the Sharks, who also helped goalie Martin Jones get his 20th win of the season.
Thomas Vanek, Anthony Mantha and Andreas Athanasiou scored for the Red Wings, who were coming off a shutout and had allowed two goals in their previous two games. Athanasiou scored in back-to-back games for the first time since October and has five points in the two games since being benched.
The Sharks scored three goals within a four-minute span late in the first period, erasing a 1-0 deficit. They also scored twice in the opening five minutes of the third before the Red Wings responded again.
FLAMES 3, CANUCKS 1
CALGARY, Alberta (AP) - Chad Johnson had 28 saves in his first win in a month, and Calgary snapped Vancouver’s six-game win streak.
Matt Stajan, Alex Chiasson and Michael Frolik scored as Calgary salvaged a split of the home-and-home series. The Flames lost 4-2 at Vancouver on Friday night despite holding the Canucks to a season-low 13 shots on net.
Bo Horvat scored for Vancouver, which dressed just five defensemen due to upper-body injuries to Ben Hutton and Chris Tanev.
