CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Authorities say a Kanawha County woman faces child abuse charges after her infant daughter was hospitalized.

Kanawha County sheriff’s Sgt. Sean Snuffer says in a news release that 21-year-old Katelyn Berger of Cross Lanes was arraigned last week on charges of child abuse causing injury and child neglect causing injury.

The statement says Berger told detectives she was frustrated and tired when she picked up her daughter from a bed and squeezed her. The infant had several fractured ribs and a punctured lung, and hospital medical staff told detectives the injuries were not the result of an accident or a medical disorder.

Berger was sent to South Central Regional Jail on $100,000 bond. Jail records didn’t indicate whether Berger has an attorney.
