RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Many schools and state offices are closed and authorities are warning people to delay travel as Virginia continues to recover from the weekend’s blast of winter weather.

Many school systems are closed Monday and the Virginia Department of Human Resource Management tweets that executive branch agencies in the Richmond area are also closed. Virginia State Police are asking people to delay travel Monday morning, noting that any snow and ice that melted on Sunday was expected to refreeze overnight, creating treacherous road conditions.

The National Weather Service reports that snowfall totals varied across the state, ranging from half an inch in Alexandria to 12.5 inches in Williamsburg.

Dominion Power reports about 9,000 customers without power Monday morning, with about half of those in the Richmond area.
