GULF SHORES, Ala. (AP) - A 49-year-old Montgomery area man vacationing in Gulf Shores has drowned.

Baldwin County Sheriff’s Capt. Stephen Arthur says deputies responded to a possible drowning around 2:45 p.m. Friday.

Arthur tells WSFA-TV that witnesses told investigators they saw a man floating in the water who appeared to be in distress. When they approached him, he was unresponsive.

Arthur says the man was pulled to shore and given CPR while paramedics were contacted but all efforts to resuscitate the man failed. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
