COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say a convicted kidnapper who escaped from a maximum security prison and had $47,000 when he was found in Texas has been returned to South Carolina.

The Department of Corrections said Jimmy Causey arrived in Columbia on Wednesday afternoon. The agency wouldn’t identify his exact location, but Corrections Director Bryan Stirling said last week he would be held in the highest security possible.

Authorities say Causey escaped July 4 from Lieber Correctional Institution near Charleston, using wire cutters apparently brought in via drone and coordinating with others by cellphone. They say he was arrested three days later in a hotel room near Austin, Texas, with two guns and $47,000 in cash.

In 2005, Causey escaped from a South Carolina maximum security prison by hiding in a trash truck.
