Actor Neil Patrick Harris blasted Hollywood peer James Woods this week over criticism the latter levied against LGBT friends.

Photos of a “gender creative” boy at Orange County Pride event held in June caught the eye of Mr. Woods, 70, who told nearly his 720,000 Twitter followers Monday that the child would one day turn on his parents for allowing him to wear dresses and makeup.

“Wait until this poor kid grows up, realizes what you’ve done, and stuffs both of you dismembered into a freezer in the garage,” Mr. Woodstweeted of signs that read “I [love] my gender creative son” and “My son wears dresses and makeup … get over it!”

Mr. Harris of “How I Met Your Mother” fame responded Tuesday to the “utterly ignorant and classless” commentary.

“I’m friends with this family. You know not of what you speak, and should be ashamed of yourself,” he toldMr. Woods.

Mr. Woods fired back Wednesday.

“Using one’s child as a social justice propaganda doll is tantamount to child abuse,” he said. “This is not about homophobia. Nice try though. …  I spent my entire adult life in the New York theatre scene, kids. I have more gay friends than Liberace. So let’s stop the homophobia train.”
