BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - A Mississippi man is heading to federal prison after pleading guilty to stealing more than $1 million from an Alabama surgical practice in a scheme with his girlfriend.

The U.S. attorney’s office in Birmingham said in a news release Friday that a judge sentenced Anthony T. Michael of Jackson, Mississippi, to five years and 10 months in prison. He was also ordered to pay $1.2 million in restitution to the victims.

Jackson pleaded guilty in March to conspiracy, bank fraud and aggravated identity theft charges. Prosecutors say his girlfriend, Anntwine Moss, worked as office manager at Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery of Alabama. They say Moss used her position to make unauthorized payments to herself and Jackson. She was sentenced to three years and five months in federal prison in May.
