BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Authorities are searching for a man who they say ran behind his ex-girlfriend as she exited a vehicle and fatally shot her.

News outlets report 52-year-old Robert Antoine is wanted on charges of aggravated battery, illegal use of a weapon and second-degree murder in the death of 41-year-old Monique Maxie.

Baton Rouge police spokesman Sgt. Don Coppola says the shooting happened around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday. Coppola says when Maxie and a friend exited the vehicle, Antoine fired several shots at them. The shots only hit Maxie.

Maxie was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and died on Sunday.
