ABERDEEN, N.C. (AP) - A judge has refused to lower a $1 million bond for an 81-year-old North Carolina woman accused of shooting her husband to death.
Local media outlets report the hearing last week was the second time attorneys for Margaret Kellis have tried to get her bond reduced. Her attorneys have argued Kellis has health issues of her own and could be helping care for a son recently diagnosed with terminal cancer.
Kellis is charged in the July 2016 death of her husband, 76-year-old Dallas Kellis.

Moore County prosecutors say Kellis threatened to kill another inmate while in jail and would pose “a danger to herself and others” if released. Authorities also said Kellis’ relatives had told them they believed she was a flight risk.
