YORK, Pa. (AP) - A man has been convicted of first-degree murder in the shooting death of the mother of his child almost two years ago in Pennsylvania.

Jurors in York County deliberated for about 3½ hours Friday before convicting 26-year-old Kameron Orr in the August 2015 slaying of 27-year-old Ruby Mercado. He faces a mandatory life term when he is sentenced next month.

Mercado, a mother of two, was found shot at least six times in the driver’s seat of her van near her home. Deputy prosecutor Renee Franchi said she had broken up with him but Orr “could not let it go.”

In a letter to the victim’s mother, Orr denied killing her, saying “I love her and her family.” Defense attorney George Margetas said Orr maintains his innocence after the verdict.
