NORRISTOWN, Pa. (AP) - A man has been sentenced to 17½ to 35 years in prison in the shooting death of another man in the drive-thru lane of a suburban Philadelphia McDonald’s a year ago.
The (Pottstown) Mercury (https://bit.ly/2ur7GSy ) reports that 22-year-old Jonathan Walker was sentenced Monday in Montgomery County Court in the June 2016 slaying of 24-year-old Marquis Johnson. Authorities said the two argued in a Norristown gas station and Walker shot the victim after they left.
Walker was convicted in April of third-degree murder and possession of an instrument of crime. He apologized to the victim’s family before sentencing but said he didn’t provoke the encounter and believed Johnson was armed.
Defense attorney Benjamin Cooper sought leniency, citing his client’s difficult upbringing and lack of a prior criminal record.
