PHILADELPHIA (AP) - A man convicted of shooting and wounding a Philadelphia police officer two years ago has been sentenced to 35 to 70 years in prison.

WCAU-TV (https://bit.ly/2uROihW ) reports that 37-year-old William Nobblen was sentenced Monday in the April 2015 shooting of the bicycle officer.

Nobblen was convicted in April of aggravated assault, assaulting a police officer and weapons counts but acquitted of attempted murder.

Authorities said he was approached by the officer and his partner during a drug investigation in west Philadelphia.

Commissioner Richard Ross said the officers were talking to Nobblen when he said “I don’t want to have to do this” and fired. He was wounded by return fire from the officer, who was hospitalized overnight.
