DANIELSVILLE, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say a motorcycle rider got away from Georgia sheriff’s deputy who stopped chasing the bike when its speed reached 120 mph (193 kph).
The Athens Banner-Herald reports the Madison County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday had still not found the fleeing rider, who wore a helmet that covered his entire face.
Sheriff’s Capt. Jim Patton said a deputy tried to stop the motorcycle on Highway 29 in Danielsville after seeing it following another vehicle too closely. Patton said the rider made a U-turn in a store parking lot and sped away.

Patton said the deputy stopped the pursuit after the motorcycle’s speed hit 120 mph, in part because the cyclist was only being stopped for a misdemeanor traffic violation.
