LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (AP) - Police say a man attacked woman hitting her in the head and pointing a gun at her before stealing her car in suburban Atlanta.

Gwinnett County police Cpl. Michele Pihera told local news media Tuesday that police are searching for 35-year-old Jeffery Merritt in the June 22 attack. Police say Merritt stole the woman’s black Monte Carlo while she was walking in the parking lot of the Britain Woods apartment complex.

Two weeks later, Doraville police stopped Merritt in the same type vehicle with a license plate that was registered to a different car. Merritt was arrested on charges unrelated to the carjacking.

Gwinnett Police say Merritt bonded out and retrieved the Monte Carlo from the impound lot.

Merritt is wanted on charges of aggravated assault, armed robbery, hijacking a motor vehicle and battery.
