WINNSBORO, La. (AP) - Authorities in Louisiana say a 7-year-old was electrocuted while climbing a neighbor’s fence.

Franklin Parish Sheriff Kevin Cobb tells local media that around 11 p.m. Monday authorities received a call reporting a missing child, later identified as Brandon McFarland, in Winnsboro. The child’s parents and neighbors searched the area before contacting the sheriff’s office.

Deputies arrived and joined the search. A neighbor found Brandon on their property next to the home his family was visiting.

Cobb says Brandon and his sister were playing in a yard when a ball went over the property owner’s 6-foot tall privacy fence. Brandon went over the fence and came into contact with a hot wire on the other side. He was electrocuted.

Cobb says an autopsy will be performed. The investigation is ongoing.
