LOS ANGELES (AP) - Los Angeles police say a man who barricaded himself inside a motel in Hollywood after police shot at him has died.

Sgt. Barry Montgomery, a police spokesman, says the man was pronounced dead Thursday afternoon, hours after officers tried to question him about an assault.

Officers were first called to the Motel 6 after someone reported a man with a gun had assaulted someone.

Montgomery says at least one officer fired their weapon during the encounter. He says the man then went back to his motel room and barricaded himself inside.

Hours later, officers sent in a camera and saw the man appeared unresponsive.

Montgomery says it appears the man died of a gunshot wound. He says detectives are investigating if the man was fatally wounded in the police shooting.
