VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) - Police say a motorist in Virginia who was pulled over after being suspected of drunken driving drove away, hitting the officer and then another car before fleeing on foot.

A news release from the Virginia Beach police notes the officer was taken to a hospital early Thursday with injuries that were not believed to be life threatening.

According to the news release, the officer tried to pull over a white Hyundai Elantra shortly after midnight Wednesday. The driver hit the accelerator while the officer was speaking, hitting the officer before fleeing and hitting another vehicle.

Occupants inside the other vehicle were treated at the scene by emergency medical services. Police are still searching for the driver of the Elantra.
