STANFORD, Ky. (AP) - Thirty days clean from a heroin addiction, a Kentucky man plans to ride more than 500 miles (805 kilometers) from Ohio to Washington, D.C., to raise funds to fight addiction.

WKYT-TV reports 20-year-old T.J. Hunter and his mother have planned the trip, which will begin in Monroe, Ohio, to attend the Fed Up! rally in the capital, calling on lawmakers to do more to combat the opioid epidemic. The pair hopes to raise $10,000 to donate to a rehabilitation center that helped Hunter.

Hunter says he was homeless in Ohio a month ago with a heroin addiction that began at age 12. He says he overdosed three times in one week, prompting him to get clean. He has since moved in with his aunt, uncle and cousins in Lincoln County, Kentucky.
