THIBODAUX, La. (AP) - A Louisiana inmate who walked off a work program job site is back in custody.

A news release from Lafourche (lah-FOOSH’) Parish Sheriff Craig Webre (WEHB-uhr) says 52-year-old John Dufren (doo-FRAYN) surrendered Thursday.

The release says that Dufren was serving time for a 2015 conviction for distributing methamphetamine.

Webre’s news release says Dufren had been spotted Tuesday by a Golden Meadow police officer after leaving the parish’s Transitional Work Program site.

Dufren ran into woods when the officer tried to verify his identity.

He had been scheduled for release in December 2018. He now faces an escape charge.
