WASHINGTON (AP) - A Washington animal shelter damaged by heavy rains is asking the public to come adopt a pet and drop off old blankets and towels.

WTOP reports the Humane Rescue Alliance in Northeast Washington suffered flood damage that ruined dog bedding.

Communications director Matt Williams said the shelter is short usable bedding and is asking people to drop off towels and blankets. The flooding also caused crowded conditions and Williams said anyone thinking of adopting a pet should try and do it this weekend.
