WARREN, Mich. (AP) - Veteran law enforcement professional Bill Dwyer is returning to Warren as police commissioner.

Mayor James Fouts says Monday that Dwyer will replace Jere Green who is retiring after nearly 38 years with the Warren Police Department.

Dwyer is on the Oakland County Commission. He had been Warren’s police commissioner from 2008 to 2010 and police chief in Farmington Hills for 23 years. Dwyer also served 23 years with the Detroit Police Department.

Fouts says Dwyer will conduct a full management review of the police department. He starts work on Aug. 14.
