DENVER (AP) - A jury has convicted a Denver man of fatally shooting a teenager and wounding another as they apparently were trying to steal marijuana plants from his backyard.

The Denver Post reported Monday https://goo.gl/ME9TpZ that 49-year-old Keith Hammock was convicted of several counts, including second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder, in the Oct. 9 death of 15-year-old Keylin Mosley and the shooting of a 14-year-old boy.

Hammock told police a motion-activated light came on when the teens entered the backyard, and investigators say he shot them with a .22-caliber rifle from a second-story window of his home.

Police received a call from the surviving boy, who told a dispatcher he had been shot and that his friend was dead.
