ST. LOUIS (AP) - A white police major who filed a racial discrimination lawsuit against then-Chief Sam Dotson and the city of St. Louis has settled the suit.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch on Monday cited court documents show that the settlement was filed Wednesday. Details were not available.

Michael Caruso’s federal suit claimed he was passed over for a promotion to lieutenant colonel in favor of a less-qualified African-American major based on race. Caruso, who has been with the department 41 years, was one of three candidates for the job that went to Ronnie Robinson in September 2015. Robinson was a major at the time.

The other candidate, Rochelle Jones, also sued, saying she was the victim of gender discrimination. Robinson’s promotion meant he joined three other men at the rank of lieutenant colonel.
