PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A woman has died from injuries she suffered when a wave hit the powerboat she was on off Conimicut (koh-NIH’-mih-kuht) Point in Warwick.

The state Department of Environmental Management says 41-year-old Kerrie Macaruso of North Providence died on Sunday.

The DEM says in a news release on Monday that Macaruso was trying to walk through an opening toward the bow of a 1991 Stingray when a wave hit the boat. She was fatally injured.

Macaruso was brought to the Oakland Beach boat ramp and transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The DEM did not detail the nature of her injuries. The agency’s division of law enforcement is continuing to investigate.

This story has been corrected to delete the reference in the first paragraph to the victim being from Warwick; she was from North Providence.
