NEW YORK (AP) - The Fire Department says a firefighter and two other people have been seriously injured in a Bronx apartment-building blaze that left seven other people with minor injuries.

Some 168 firefighters and emergency medical workers worked to handle the blaze and injuries on a hot July Fourth in the Hunts Point neighborhood. The four-alarm fire was reported around 1:10 p.m. and took nearly two hours to bring under control.

Firefighters believe it started on the fourth floor of a five-story building on Hunts Point Avenue and extended to the top floor.

They say none of the injuries, including the serious ones, appear life-threatening. Altogether, six firefighters and four civilians were injured.
