COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say three people who were held hostage for several hours at gunpoint have been rescued in South Carolina.
Richland County Sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Curtis Wilson says s special team of deputies entered a home in Columbia around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday and ended the standoff more than three hours after it started.
Wilson says the two men and one woman being held against their will did not suffer any serious injuries.
Authorities say that officers arrested Valentino Hammonds as they rescued the hostages. He faces attempted murder, kidnapping and other charges. It wasn’t known if he had a lawyer.
Deputies did not say why Hammonds was holding the three people hostage.
