Man arrested after child hit in the face with baseball bat

RICHLANDS, Va. (AP) - A Virginia man has been arrested after a 12-year-old boy was struck in the face with a baseball bat.

The Bluefield Daily Telegraph reports 35-year-old Joseph Earl Cox turned himself in on charges of malicious wounding on Monday.

Authorities say they charged Cox following a domestic disturbance Sunday.

Tazewell County Sheriff Brian Hieatt says the boy was airlifted to a hospital in Tennessee, but his condition has not been released. No other details have been released.

It’s unclear if Cox has a lawyer.
