HAMMOND, La. (AP) - A Louisiana man is in custody accused of killing a 9-month-old infant he was babysitting.
Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards said Thursday that 28-year old Benjamin Joseph Carter, Sr. of Hammond, was arrested Monday on a charge of second-degree murder.
Autopsy findings show blunt force trauma as the child’s cause of death. The sheriff’s office says further details on how the child died will not be released.
Deputies responded to a Hammond residence around 3:45 p.m. on Monday regarding a report of an unresponsive infant. Deputies immediately attempted to revive the infant however efforts were not successful.
An investigation into the child’s death led detectives to Carter.
