NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - Police in Virginia have identified the man who was killed after he shot and injured an officer.
Virginia State Police, who are investigating the shooting, said in a statement Thursday that the dead man was 39-year-old Tyson Chad Williams.
Troopers say on July 3, Williams was in a house in Norfolk when police tried to make contact with him. Authorities say Williams shot one of the officers, striking him in his ballistic vest.
Police say other officers returned fire, striking and killing Williams. The injured officer was treated and released at a hospital.
State police said in a statement earlier this week the man who was killed was white. Authorities have not identified the officers involved in the shooting. They are on administrative duty.
