EAST ORANGE, N.J. (AP) - Police have arrested a robbery suspect after a three-hour-long standoff in northern New Jersey.

NJ.com reports (https://bit.ly/2tLp70C ) police were investigating reports of an armed robbery in an East Orange neighborhood around 7 p.m. Wednesday when the suspect ran into a building.

City spokeswoman Connie Jackson says the suspect barricaded himself in the building. Jackson says two residents were able to exit the building safely.

The suspect surrendered around 10:30 p.m. after talking to East Orange police and the Essex County Sheriff’s Office by cellphone.

No injuries were reported.

Charges are pending against the suspect.
