NEW YORK (AP) - A man has been sentenced to three years in prison for knocking another man unconscious as they fought with fists and a mop at a New York City mall.

The Staten Island Advance says Sean Morris was sentenced Friday after pleading guilty last month to assault.

Morris and a 57-year-old man scrapped at the Staten Island Mall on Jan. 9. Cellphone video showed the older man swinging a mop at the 27-year-old Morris and Morris hitting him, while a security guard tried to separate them.

The older man fell to the floor and hit his head. Prosecutors said he broke his nose and lost hearing in one ear.

Morris’ lawyer, Matthew Zuntag, asked for medical, mental health and substance-abuse treatment for Morris, saying they’re all “relevant in this matter.”
