CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - A North Carolina paper company is cutting 180 jobs at a South Carolina plant as the demand for newsprint drops in the era of electronic communications.
The Charlotte Observer reported (https://bit.ly/2rv2mMA) that Resolute Forest Products of Charlotte is shutting down one of its paper machines at its plant in Catawba.
Resolute said it will close the machine June 30.
Resolute has had fewer requests for all kinds of lightweight, coated paper products, including magazines, catalogs and flyer inserts.
Spokeswoman Debbie Johnston said production will shift to its other, larger and faster machine at Catawba. The company has about 600 employees at the Catawba plant.
