SPARKS, Nev. (AP) - A 41-year-old Sparks man who allegedly threatened a woman with a gun has been taken into custody after a 90-minute standoff with a SWAT team.

Sparks Police Lt. Peter Krall says a woman and her son fled the residence and called police at about 9:30 a.m. Monday after Cory Spear pointed a hand gun at her and threatened to kill her if she didn’t leave.

Police used a loud speaker to order him to come out with his hands up.

But Krall says Spear demanded that a Washoe County sheriff’s deputy be present first. A deputy arrived and Spear surrendered without incident at about 10:40 a.m.

Krall says Spear has been booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. It’s not clear if he has a lawyer or will be appointed one at his initial court appearance.
