GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Police in Glendale have arrested a woman on suspicion of second-degree murder in connection with the death of her baby daughter.

Bond was set at $500,000 for 23-year-old Amber Cherie Sagarnaga at her initial court appearance Monday.

She doesn’t have a lawyer yet.

Police say Sagarnaga was arrested Friday night after the baby’s father - who is Sagarnaga’s fiance - called 911 to say the 5-month-old child was unresponsive and not breathing.

The baby was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.

Police say Sagarnaga told detectives that she had placed a heavy comforter over the baby’s head and pushed down on her face to stop her from crying.

Sagarnaga claimed the baby continued to cry and she left the comforter covering the baby’s face for hours while she slept.
