TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - A home health aide captured on hidden camera abusing an Alzheimer’s patient last year has pleaded guilty to neglect.

State authorities say 59-year-old Carla Caraballo was sentenced to a year of probation after she entered her plea Monday. She also must permanently surrender her certification as a certified homemaker-home health aide in New Jersey.

A former Plainfield resident who now lives in Louisiana, Caraballo worked at a senior living community in Denville where she cared for the 91-year-old, who had dementia and Alzheimer’s. The woman’s family had installed hidden surveillance equipment to monitor her care.

Prosecutors say the camera captured Caraballo neglecting to help the woman, who fell and hit her head as she rose from bed in July 2016.
