NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The identity of a man found shot to death in a cemetery has been released by a New Orleans coroner.

The Times-Picayune reports (https://bit.ly/2sWVt5g ) the Orleans Parish Coroner identified the victim as 23-year-old Codey Johnson. He was found Friday morning when a New Orleans police officer moonlighting as a guard was asked to check out someone apparently sleeping on the grass in a Lakeview neighborhood cemetery.

Greenwood Funeral Home ambassador Pat McMahon says Johnson was found in the grass near an entrance drive to Greenwood Cemetery and the First Baptist Church of New Orleans.

Police responded around 7 a.m. and initially investigated it as an unclassified death, but that changed to a homicide after authorities confirmed Johnson was shot. Emergency responders pronounced Johnson dead after attempts to revive him.
