SPRINGDALE, Pa. (AP) - Police say a driver suspected of being drunk sped away from a traffic stop and crashed moments later into a Pennsylvania pizza shop and was found dead.

Allegheny County homicide detectives are assisting police in Springdale, the borough where the crash occurred, and East Deer Township, where police first tried to stop the driver about 1:40 a.m. Tuesday.

Homicide Lt. Andrew Schurman says the driver fled the stop and East Deer police followed the vehicle, but didn’t chase it at high speed. Officers found the car crashed into From Italy Pizza, a restaurant just inside the border of nearby Springdale.

Schurman says the driver didn’t exit the vehicle before being found dead.

Police did not immediately release that person’s name.
