SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - Police say they’ve charged a 34-year-old man with fatally shooting another man as the victim sat in his car while parked on a Syracuse street last weekend.

Syracuse police say Tuesday that Vernon Brockington, of Syracuse, was charged with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

Authorities say Brockington fatally shot 38-year-old Samuel Dixon last Saturday morning. Police say Brockington walked up to Dixon around 9 a.m. Saturday as he sat in a parked car on the city’s north side.

Police say Brockington then shot Dixon at close range several times with a handgun. Officers responding to a report of a shooting around 9:15 a.m. found Dixon shot in his car. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Brockington is jailed without bail. His attorney, Edward Klein, wasn’t available for comment.
