HIGHLAND, Utah (AP) - A woman who was hiking with her grandson has been rescued after becoming stranded on a ledge in American Fork Canyon.

The Utah County Sheriff’s Office states the 64-year-old woman was rescued Monday. She got stranded about 40 feet (12 meters) above a road while trying to take a shortcut.

Crews worked for about two and a half hours through wind and blowing snow to lower the woman using a system of ropes and pulleys.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital for mild hypothermia.

The grandson’s age was not provided by police. It was not clear if he climbed down on his own or had to be rescued as well.
