ISLIP TERRACE, N.Y. (AP) - State police say a man is dead after he drove the wrong way on Long Island’s Southern State Parkway and collided head-on with an SUV.

Troopers say the accident occurred Tuesday afternoon in Islip Terrace In Suffolk County. Officials say a man driving a Honda Accord had been driving eastbound in a westbound lane, and struck an SUV head-on.

The Honda driver was pronounced dead at the scene and the SUV driver suffered minor injuries.

The names of both drivers involved in the collision are being withheld by police pending family notification. Both drivers were the sole occupants of their respective vehicles.

Newsday reports the Honda driver sideswiped another vehicle before crashing into the SUV.
