SEBASTIAN, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say a Florida deputy suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the thigh during a training exercise.

Treasure Coast Newspapers (https://goo.gl/LlkNdb ) reports that the injury occurred on Wednesday at a public shooting range near Sebastian. The range was closed to the public during training for the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office.

A sheriff’s office news release says the shooting was accidental.

Indian River County Fire Rescue says the deputy was taken to a Melbourne hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

The shooting is under investigation.
