GAINESVILLE, Ga. (AP) - Georgia authorities say a child was wounded and a deputy’s head was grazed in a shootout after a home invasion.
Hall County Sheriff’s Deputy Stephen Wilbanks says in a news release that as deputies answered a home invasion report around midnight Thursday, a car leaving the scene swerved at a deputy, and an exchange of gunfire followed.
Wilbanks says the car held children and adults.
The Gainesville Times (https://bit.ly/2rzUR8H ) reports that a child and two adults in the car were wounded.
None of the wounds was considered life-threatening.
Wilbanks says the deputy’s ballistic vest stopped a shot to the torso. He described the deputy only as an eight-year veteran patrol officer. He was treated and released.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigations is investigating - standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.
