FAIRFIELD, Iowa (AP) - A funeral home says an Iowa House of Representatives member has died at home in southeastern Iowa.

Jack Raymond at Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield says 73-year-old Curt Hanson died Friday. Raymond didn’t know the cause of Hanson’s death. Funeral arrangements are pending.

A Democrat, Hanson was serving his fifth term in the Iowa House. He represented District 82, which includes Davis, Jefferson and Van Buren counties. House Democratic leader Mark Smith says Hanson “was the model for thoughtful, diplomatic, and constituent-centered representation.”

Hanson was born in Iowa and raised on a Kossuth County farm. He was a retired driver’s education teacher at Fairfield High School. He was named Fairfield Teacher of the Year in 1994.
