BOSTON (AP) - Opening statements in the manslaughter trial of a Boston man charged with delivering a fatal punch to a man trying to break up a fight have been scheduled.
The prosecution and defense are expected to give opening statements Friday in the trial of Bryan McElhinney.
Prosecutors say McElhinney punched 45-year-old Brian Hingston in the face in Boston the night of April 16, 2016.
Hingston, a father of three from Quincy, hit his head when he fell to the ground and died hours later.
Hingston had spent the night celebrating a friend’s birthday with a group of about 25 people and was punched when he stepped in to break up a fight between two other men.
McElhinney pleaded not guilty, saying he acted in self-defense.
