TUSCUMBIA, Ala. (AP) - The roller coaster at Spring Park in Alabama is closed indefinitely after several children were stranded on the ride and had to be rescued.

City officials say no one was hurt during the malfunction on Wednesday. News outlets report firefighters rescued the children.

Tuscumbia Mayor Kerry Underwood says a chain that lifts the coaster didn’t release and it could not go down. Underwood says the city will bring in a safety specialist to examine all aspects of the rides, starting with the roller coaster.

Parks and Recreation Director Joel Kendrick says all other rides will remain open.
