THIBODAUX, La. (AP) - Louisiana authorities say three adults are accused of failing to get medical treatment for a burned 3-year-old.

Lafourche (luh-FOOSH) Parish Sheriff Craig Webre said Friday that the girl’s mother, 33-year-old Amber Cook of Berwick, and the couple she was staying with, 39-year-old Francisco Perez and 43-year-old Hilda Perez of Thibodaux, each was arrested Thursday on a count of cruelty to a juvenile. Cook also is accused of improper parental supervision.

Lt. Brennan Matherne says he doesn’t know if they have attorneys.

Webre says all three knew hot wax had burned the girl’s arms and legs Tuesday night, but she was untreated when a neighbor called 911 Wednesday to say that a burned toddler was outside, alone.

The girl was taken to a hospital. She and Cook’s two other children are in state custody.
