HAYTI, Mo. (AP) - A southeast Missouri woman was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the shooting death of her boyfriend.

KFVS reports (https://bit.ly/2rWia80 ) 37-year-old Lisa Hooper, of Hayti, was sentenced Tuesday for first-degree murder in the death of 28-year-old John Thomas.

Hayti police say Hooper and Thomas were arguing inside a car on May 9 when a gunshot was fired. When officers arrived, they found Hooper holding Thomas’ head. Court documents say she was screaming that the gun went off accidentally.

Hooper was also sentenced to seven years in prison for armed criminal action, to be served concurrently with her life sentence.
