NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - A New Jersey man has admitted to impersonating a police officer and robbing a home of thousands of dollars in cash and jewelry.
Peter Kopic, of Passaic, pleaded guilty to impersonating an officer, burglary and robbery Wednesday - one day after his trial began. Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert Laurino says kidnapping charges against the 38-year-old were dismissed as part of the plea deal.
Prosecutors say Kopic and another man dressed as police officers in 2011 to gain access to an Irvington home, then proceeded to tie up two women inside and trap them in a back room along with two children while they robbed the house.
Kopic was arrested nearly six years after the robbery.
His sentencing is scheduled for November.
